One-shot setup consideration prior to run Easy Remote Desktop.

Step 1.  Configuring the two Mac computers:

Install the application "Easy Remote Desktop" on the computer which is going to take the control.  Let's call this computer "TC" for "Taking Control".

From the remote computer, the one that needs to be controlled, enable "Screen Sharing" in the "Sharing" Pane of its "System Preferences".  Let's call this remote computer "R".

Step 2. Connecting to the remote computer "R":

Option 2.1: if the remote computer "R" is on a same LAN (local area network) than "TC":

Simply use the local IP address* or the computer's name**.

*  IP addresses starting with 192.168.X.X, or 10.0.X.X are working and visible only on local network.

** In order to know the computer's name, go to "Sharing" Pane of its "System Preferences".  Its name is displayed at the top of the window.

Option 2.2: if the remote computer "R" is over internet

To connect to the remote computer "R" over internet, you need to enter a non-local IP address.  Let's assume that the remote computer "R" is connected through a router.

You need to configure the router in 2 easy steps:

1- Assign a static local IP address to the remote computer R (such as 10.0.1.10).

2- Then enable default host to point to this static IP address.

Now the router of the remote computer "R" is properly configured: it means that the internet requests that reach the router (which is visible on the internet) will be forwarded to the remote computer "R" inside the local network.

You are ready to go.  From the computer "TC", and inside the Ease Remote Desktop application, type in the IP address of the router of the remote computer "R".

In order to find the IP address of the router (in order to reach the remote computer "R"), from that remote computer "R", surf to http://www.whatismyip.com/

Step 3. Optional for more Comfort:  If your situation were Option 2.2 (i.e. connecting the computers over internet) and that the remote

computer "R" is connected to internet with a dynamic IP address:

This step is optional.  In case the remote computer "R" has a dynamic IP address, its IP address will change over days.  Here is a permanent solution to avoid to have to look for the new IP address and therefore to save time: From your remote computer "R", we would recommend to register a free domain name on http://no-ip.com and install on it the client they offer: this client will update automatically the IP address when it changes. Thanks to this installation on the remote computer "R", the computer "TC" will be able to connect to the remote computer "R" simply by entering the domain name (the one you have registered in http://no-ip.com) in the Easy Remote Desktop application.
